As Safe and Trusted Canada continues to grow across Canada, we continually review our platform to ensure it provides the greatest value for both businesses and consumers. After carefully evaluating our original City Trade Area model, we determined that there was a better way to organize business visibility and improve the consumer experience.
As a result, we have changed from City Trade Areas to Provincial Trade Areas.
What Changed?
Instead of assigning businesses to numerous individual City Trade Areas, each province is now divided into a small number of larger Provincial Trade Areas. Consumers can still search for the city or town they are looking for, but businesses now gain visibility across a much larger geographic area.
A single Provincial Trade Area may encompass 50 to 60 cities and towns, providing substantially greater exposure than the previous City Trade Area model.
Provincial Trade Areas Across Canada
The benefits of Provincial Trade Areas extend across Canada.
For example, Alberta has only two Provincial Trade Areas: Calgary and Edmonton. Ontario has only seven Provincial Trade Areas, and British Columbia has only five.
Instead of requiring businesses to select from dozens of individual City Trade Areas, a single Provincial Trade Area now provides visibility across a much larger region. This allows businesses to reach substantially larger markets while simplifying the management of trade areas.
A Practical Example is Alberta
A business with a Professional Plan receives three Provincial Trade Areas. By selecting both the Calgary and Edmonton Provincial Trade Areas, the business gains visibility throughout Alberta, with one additional Provincial Trade Area still available for another provincial market if desired.
If that business is the first Professional Plan listing activated in its business category, it will be displayed first within the Professional Listing Level throughout Alberta whenever consumers search within those Provincial Trade Areas.
This provides significantly greater visibility than was possible under the previous City Trade Area model.

Whether your business chooses a Basic, Plus, Standard, Advanced, or Professional Plan, every Provincial Trade Area now provides significantly greater visibility than a traditional City Trade Area because each Provincial Trade Area encompasses a much larger geographic region.
The Professional Plan continues to provide the greatest flexibility by including up to three Provincial Trade Areas. However, the advantages of Provincial Trade Areas extend beyond the Professional Plan. Every listing plan benefits from the increased reach and visibility this new model provides.
The number of trade areas included with your plan may not have changed, but the reach and visibility of each Provincial Trade Area has increased dramatically.
